Precise Measurements for a Regulation Tennis Court
Permalink

Hello everyone,

Im working on designing a proper tennis court and want to ensure I follow the official dimensions precisely. Im curious about the full court length and width, the differences between singles and doubles sidelines, and the exact size of service boxes. How much space do the doubles alleys add?

Also, whats the official net height at the center and posts? Are there any less obvious measurements or guidelines that people often overlook when laying out a court? Any visual references, diagrams, or personal tips for accurate setup would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks!

A standard tennis court is 78 feet (23.77 m) long. The width is 27 feet (8.23 m) for singles and 36 feet (10.97 m) for doubles, so the doubles alleys add 4.5 feet (1.37 m) on each side. Each service box is 21 feet (6.40 m) long and 13.5 feet (4.11 m) wide, measured from the net to the service line. For those looking for a detailed layout, a tennis court size guide can help ensure all dimensions are accurate. The net height is 3 feet (0.914 m) at the center and 3.5 feet (1.07 m) at the posts. For proper setup, leave at least 21 feet behind baselines and 12 feet on the sides for clearance, and ensure all court lines are exactly 2 inches (5 cm) wide.
