What problems occur if I use Excel contacts directly without VCF?

I have a large list of contacts saved in an Excel spreadsheet (XLS/XLSX format), and I am trying to import them directly into my email client and mobile phone. However, I noticed that many platforms prefer contacts in VCF (vCard) format. What kind of problems can occur if I use Excel contacts directly without converting them to VCF?
